This PDO Lemnos wine is made from 100% Limnio grapes - the oldest referenced varietal in the world - grown in the volcanic soils of the island of Lemnos by winemaker Manolis Garalis’ daughter Despina.
A wine with a wonderfully youthful character of cranberries, strawberries, red cherries and violets. Refreshing acidity on the palate, with moderate, balanced alcohol and body, soft tannins and persistent aftertaste.
The vines are cultivated organically, with no chemical intervention, irrigation or fertilization. They are formed into cups and harvested at the end of August. The whole bunches are placed in tanks and slightly broken, to start the spontaneous, mostly carbonic fermentation. The juice is continuously poured over the grapes for 12 days until the fermentation is completed. The wine is then pressed, desalinated and bottled without stabilization or filtering.
Limnio Short Skin is a light style of red wine with accentuated acidity and goes great with lamb on the spit or rack as well as traditional pasta. Also pairs well with Asian dishes, such as roasted duck bao buns with Hoisin sauce or grilled quail, as well as yellow cheeses with red fruit chutneys.
